Ruth's dedication to nurturing and caring for others was evident in her work as a highly respected foster care child provider. With an associate’s degree in child development, she opened her heart and home to abused children, providing them with the love and support they so desperately needed. Ruth's compassion and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of those around her defined her legacy.
In addition to her professional achievements, Ruth was a true renaissance woman. A highly talented seamstress, she created countless cherished garments and gifts that brought joy to her family and others. Her artistic spirit shone through in her hobbies, which included painting, reading, and dancing—always with a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face. Ruth found immense joy in shopping for just the right gift, often delighting her loved ones with thoughtful surprises.
Ruth's laughter was infectious, her jokes a source of joy, and her kitchen was a haven filled with delicious aromas and love. She was a master at bringing family together, creating lasting memories around the dinner table, and ensuring that everyone felt valued and cherished.
She is survived by her brother Richard, beloved children (Edward, Samuel, Darryl, Eric, Makeda, Ambria, and Deondrae), grandchildren (Eddie, Barry, Kameron, Janet, Angela, Alex, Evan, Samuel, Sirin, Sihiri, Mikaela, Michael, Wesley, Carson, Eric C, and Jasmine), nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart and were like children (Walter, Nais, Gwen, Monet, Algin and Michael), lifelong friends (Lola and Dona), great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Samuel W. Mimms Jr., married on March 1, 1959; together, they built a life filled with love, adventure, and deep companionship; her sisters and brother, Geraldine, Janie, Alice, and Frank, her niece, Caroline, and grandsons Nathan and Tyrone.
Ruth B. Mimms will be remembered not only for her remarkable talents and her generous heart but also for the joy and light she brought into the world. Her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the countless lives she touched. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
