Nita was born on May1st, 1924 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to parents Charles and Angela Franke. She was the oldest of three sisters (her older brother died soon after birth). She attended school in Okmulgee, graduating from High School and Secretary School in Okmulgee.
On June 6th, 1942 Nita married Glenn Turner, the boy across the alley. She continued to work as a secretary until her first child. Over their 62 year marriage they lived in Oklahoma, California, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, and Texas again. Nita and Glenn raised three sons. While being a stay-at-home mother Nita continued to take courses to improve her secretarial skills. She was proud of being able to type over 100 words per minute in the 1960’s and 1970”s. After the boys were grown, Nita worked part time as a secretary, realtor, and tax preparer. Nita and Glenn moved from Midland to Nacogdoches in 1983 after Glenn retired. Nita was a life- long member of The First Methodist Church in Okmulgee, Midland, and Nacogdoches. She dearly loved her church home and was an active member. She loved to play bridge and did at every opportunity. She was a member of The Red Hat Society, Newcomers, and Prime Timers.
Nita was predeceased by her parents, her brother, her sisters, and her husband Glenn.
She is survived by her three sons, David Turner, Steven Turner, and Stanley Turner; six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She loved her church, family, and friends above everything.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes. Mom really did appreciate it. She and the family were so lucky to have the kind and loving caregivers (Ginger Melton, Janice Yates, Jennifer Johnson, and Jennifer Church). They worked very hard and are appreciated. A private graveside service for Nita will be held at a later date in Okmulgee, OK.
