David E. Miller, 81, walked into heaven on September 27, 2025, and began worshipping his precious Lord Jesus. David was born on September 19, 1944, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to parents, Thomas E. Miller and Lois Myers Miller. David spent his school years in several cities in Louisiana and then graduated from West Monroe High School, West Monroe, LA.
After a stint at college, David enlisted in the Air Force in May 1965. He served in Okinawa, attained the rank of Sgt. and was transferred to Vietnam in 1968. There he served as an aircrew member on the C47 “Gooney Bird” planes as a Radio Intercept Operator with Top Secret Security Clearance. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1969 after his excellent reconnaissance effort during a mission. After 125 missions in Vietnam, he left the service and returned home to Louisiana where he held several challenging jobs. Those included managing Wilson Jewelry stores and Target stores.
David married Carolyn Outzs in 1971. They moved to Texas and soon had 2 children, David Scott and Jenny Sue. Their lives were dramatically changed when David became a born-again Christian. David and Carolyn served faithfully at Sagemont Baptist Church in Houston and then after he was moved to a Target store in North Houston, they were faithful members of Forest Cove Baptist Church.
While there, David felt the Lord calling him to be a minister of the Gospel. He received his theological degree from Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX and then finished his college education at Mid-America University. David and Carolyn faithfully served in several churches in TX and LA. Carolyn passed from this life in April 2006 which was a devastating loss to his family.
But God saw fit to bring Paula Carl Cowee into David’s life, and they married in Jasper, TX. David then served as Associate Director of Missions in Kirbyville, TX for 9 years. After his retirement in 2017, David and Paula moved to Nacogdoches, TX.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years Carolyn Outzs Miller; father and mother, Thomas and Lois Miller; sister, Rita Jackson; and brothers, George and Carl Miller.
David is survived by his wife, Paula Cowee Miller; children, Scott (Laura) Miller and Jenny Miller Harvey (Darrell), David Cowee (Sheila) and Tonya Cowee Irwin (Dale); his grandchildren, Emma and David Miller, Solomon and Carolyne Harvey, Laura Null (Jarrod), Allison Younger (Paul), Brett Irwin; and 6 great-grandchildren, Halle, Caleb and Audrey Null, Eleanor, Jacob, and Theodore Younger. David is also survived by his brother, Thomas Miller, and several nieces and nephews.
David was a mighty man of God who loved to preach the Word of the Lord and who faithfully served in any capacity the Lord asked. He walked in the wisdom of God and was held in high regard by all who knew him. He will be missed but we will see him again one day and will worship together at the throne of God.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 4th, 2025 in the chapel of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home. The visitation will start at 1:00 P.M. At a later date, he will be inurned in the National Cemetery in Dallas with military honors.
