

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Perritte Memorial United Methodist Church at 1025 Durst St., Nacogdoches, TX, officiated by Rev. Wallace Shook, assisted by Rev. Jesse Harris and Rev. Danny Carter. Internment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Friday Fred and Lennie Whittington Walker, brothers, Royce,, Herman, and Edwell Walker, and sisters, Naoma and husband, Newel Lewis, and Louise Stark. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Muckleroy Walker of Nacogdoches, son Stuart and wife, Roxanna Walker of Boulder, CO, daughters Janis and husband, Jim Hall of Austin, TX, Ruth and husband, Brian Jensen of Garland, TX, grandchildren Dana Lee Hall of Kyle, TX, Sarah Walker of Boston, MA and Madison Walker of Boulder, CO, brother-in-law Ernest Pat Muckleroy of Nacogdoches.
Derwin was born in Edom, TX and grew up in East Texas attending school in Noonday and Chandler. He worked for the CCC before joining the Navy at the start of WWII where he served on the U.S.S. Fomahault in the South Pacific theatre. Derwin was a graduate of Lon Morris College, SFA State University and attended SMU’s Perkins School of Theology.
Derwin retired after serving over 40 years in the Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. Derwin served as pastor of churches in the Springfield Circuit out of Palestine, Bethlehem in Hudson, Redland, Edom, Sexton, Tyler County Mission, Warren, Orange St John’s, Highlands, Palestine Grace, Houston St.Timothy, Nacogdoches Perritte Memorial. Houston Parker Memorial, Pasadena Boulevard, and League City.
In retirement Derwin and his wife Helen raised Gelbvieh cattle in Nacogdoches.
