

Mr. Barbin was raised in Nederland, Texas. He played football at Wharton Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University, earning his Bachelors of Science and Masters of Education Degrees from SFA. He was inducted into the SFASU Lettermen’s Association Hall of Fame for football and track in 1983.
Gene married his wife, Annelle (Turner) Barbin, on September 15, 1956, at First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches. Gene was the long-time registrar for Stephen F. Austin State University. He enjoyed spending time at the river with Pat Barton and other friends. Gene was a Christian, a member of First Baptist Church where he taught 3rd grade boys' Sunday School for many years. He enjoyed keeping the company of his family and friends as well.
Mr. Barbin was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Velma Ferguson; and brother, Jack Barbin.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Annelle Barbin of Nacogdoches; daughters, Cindy Barbin Pettus and husband, Randy of Tyler, and Becky Barbin Griffith and husband, Mark of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Katie Griffith of Bullard and Denton Pettus of Bullard; sister-in-law, Sue Turner Edmonds; niece, Karan Adams Stewart; and nephew, Richard Brook Edmonds.
Due to current circumstances, a private family inurnment service will be held at the mausoleum of Sunset Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches.
