Gena Dennis Mercer

Gena graduated from Massey Business College. She was a homemaker and worked 50 years plus in the Bed Babies nursery at Fredonia Hill Baptist Church. She was a fantastic cook, loved to sew, do crossword puzzles, beach trips, shopping, girl’s trips, cat lover and rescuer, and collected roosters and chickens.

Gena loved her family, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all the babies that passed through her loving and comforting arms. She would win the “Best Mom” and “Gramma” Awards through all the loved she showed to her family and the bed babies.

She is preceded in death by her parents; half siblings, Pete Dennis, Ruth Dennis Cooper, Zillah “Sis” Owens, Raymond Howard Dennis, Truman Dennis, Infant Dennis; sibling, Lee John Dennis.

Survivors include: her daughter, Lynne Witcher and husband Tug; sons, Terry Mercer, Richard Mercer and wife Sharon; granddaughter, Shannan Elizabeth Reardon; great granddaughter Elena Rae Bartholomew; sisters, Maelene Baker and husband Bart and Vadine Wilson.

A visitation will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Gena will be laid to rest in Old Union Cemetery. The family suggests casual attire for the service.
