John Michael Crofton, born in Shreveport, Louisiana, entered this world as the beloved son of Beatrice Leola Lacabee and Joseph Bernard Crofton. He grew up in Shreveport and graduated from Fair Park High School before proudly joining the United States Army. Serving in communications, John held deep pride in his military service and carried that dedication throughout his life.
John was a man of many talents and passions. He loved riding motorcycles, traveling to new places, fishing, dove hunting, and spending time with the people he loved. He was a man of his word and believed strongly in integrity, expecting the same of those around him. Gifted with exceptional craftsmanship, he created some of the most beautiful car interiors ever seen, taking great joy and pride in his work. John never met a stranger—he always had a joke, a story, or a smile to share.
On October 28, 1978, John married the love of his life, Nell Richardson. Together they built a life filled with laughter, devotion, and family. John deeply cherished his family and held a special place in his heart for the family that came into his life over the years—he loved them as his own. He was truly loved, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife, Nell Crofton; his daughter, Debbie McCartney; three grandson, Heath McCartney, and wife Jammie; Clay Dudley, and Barrett Dudley two great-grandsons; and one great great-grandson. He is also survived by his sisters Irene Soileau, Marjorie Pinkard, Beatrice Hood, and Shirley Wells, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Bernard Jr., Edward, Frances, and David; his sister Rosemary Thomas; and his son-in-law Ricky McCartney.
John’s hobbies included traveling, fishing, and spending time with family and friends—moments that brought him great joy.
In lieu of flowers, John asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.
