

He was born January 14, 1925, in Nacogdoches to Cullis Wilson and Lucile Reese Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rayford Wilson; and sons, Marcus Wilson and David Wilson.
He is survived by his daughters, Pat Fite of San Antonio, and Chaille Fuquay and husband Tom Fuquay of Austin; granddaughters and their spouses, Amy and Brad Hardin, Sarah and Alfonso Pasquel, and Cecilia Fuquay and Meg Huss; and six great grandchildren.
He served in WWII with the Marines First Parachute Battalion, and later with H Company, Third Battalion, Twenty-Six Marines, Fifth Division. He served at Guadalcanal and Bougainville and was wounded at Iwo Jima after 17 days of fighting.
Mr. Wilson retired from the Houston Chronicle as a sports columnist.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Cason Monk-Metcalf’s Sunset Chapel, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. Constance Engelking will act as celebrant for the service. Full military honors will be presented by the United States Marine Corps. Inurnment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
