

The funeral service for Laverne Henry will be Saturday, June 19, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at Fredonia Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Billy McDaniel officiating. She passed away on June 15, 2010 in Nacogdoches.
Laverne was born July 15, 1926 in Nacogdoches. She was the daughter of Ira Cox and Paul Lafayette Mooney. She graduated from Nacogdoches High School with the class of 1943. She was employed by Stephen F. Austin State University Post Office for 25 years. Laverne has been an active member of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church since 1933. As a child, she and her family attended worship services at the original tabernacle. She was a faithful worker of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church throughout her life. Laverne has taught children in Sunday school, Training Union, mission organizations (Sunbeams and GA’s), and Vacation Bible School. She was recently recognized for her many years of service as secretary of the Children’s Division. She was an associate member of the “Love in Action” Sunday School class and attended Tuesday Bible Study.
She is survived by her daughters, Joy Hounsel and husband Ron of Sunnyvale, Texas and Gay Ervin and husband Ralph of Nacogdoches; three granddaughters, Melissa Hounsel of McKinney, Texas; Kristen Ervin of Nacogdoches and Megan Ervin of Nacogdoches; brother, Paul Edward Mooney and wife, Edie of Fort Worth, Texas; niece Patti Kriss and husband Tony of Highland Village, Texas and several other special nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Henry is preceded in death by her husband Jack Oran Henry, her mother and father, and sister, Pauline Mercer.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Martin, James Beane, Tony Kriss, George Middlebrook, Robert Hough and Larry Stanaland. The “Love in Action” Sunday school class and Laverne’s Bible study class will be honored as special guests.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Missions Fund of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, 1711 South Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75964.
Visitation will be at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors Friday, June 18 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
