

She attended Martinsville ISD and dedicated her life to her family as a loving stay-at-home mom and proud “Mimi.” Her greatest joy came from being at home with her grandchildren, caring for her dogs, watching her grandkids’ sporting events, and spending time surrounded by family. She will be remembered most for her devotion as a wife, mother, Mimi, daughter, and sister-in-law, roles she cherished deeply.
Michelle was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Cortines, lovingly known as “Nana,” and her brother, Dewayne Cortines.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Jernigan; father, Steve Cortines; children, Johnny Jernigan and wife Hannah, Haley Jernigan, and Shane Jernigan and significant other Kalea White; grandchildren, Kennah Jernigan, Hayden Jernigan, and Hayslee Jernigan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A visitation will be held at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors on Saturday February 7, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at Cason Monk-Metcalf on Sunday February 8, 2026, at 2:00 pm officiated by Brenda Loudenslager.
Michelle will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches.
Serving as pallbearers will be T.J. Holliman, Scotty Butler, Wade Minter, Josh Holliman, Alex Amerson, Logan Peveto, Austin Akridge, Shane Jernigan, Johnny Jernigan, and Hayden Jernigan. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Gilcrease, Scott Frost, and the Melrose Volunteer Fire Department.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
