Lynn was born on January 13, 1950, in Nacogdoches, Texas to Florence (Floy) Hooker Bousman (deceased) and Linden (Lindy) Bousman (deceased).
She graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1968 where she was a cheerleader for three years. After school and in the summers, she enjoyed helping her parents with their family businesses. She attended Southern Methodist University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in Finance from Cox School of Business. Although she was fluent with numbers and business, she also pursued her creative talents by taking many art and art history courses to expand her knowledge of life. After college, she continued to keep up with her beloved Ponies football team and delighted in their recent success. Lynn also kept up with her alma mater as a member of the SMU Cox Business School Alumni Association.
Lynn moved to Houston after college and put her accounting skills to work at Ben Franklin Savings. She then used her finance knowledge at Fort Bend County Development where she assessed property values, established budgets for water districts and worked with developers to manage housing lot density. She began her career in real estate in 1984 and spent many years helping families find forever homes in many of Houston’s most prestigious neighborhoods.
To honor Lynn’s family’s commitment to the country and the State of Texas, she joined Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She had also been a member of the Southampton Garden Club and the Houston Theta Mom’s group.
Lynn married Craig Hughes in 1989, and she immediately poured her heart and soul into establishing a loving home for their blended family. Together, they started Hughes Building & Design, Inc., which designed and built high end homes in Houston. After serving as Financial Manager for the M.D. Anderson Children’s Art Project for more than three years, she joined Craig full-time at Hughes Building & Design where her contributions to the business were evident in every home they built.
Above all, Lynn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She took great joy in in her grandchildren and spent significant time relishing her role as “Lindy” by attending their baseball, soccer, and lacrosse games and cheer and tumbling classes. She was a consummate consumer of knowledge and loved to research topics on health, lifestyle and investments, which she enthusiastically shared with her family and friends. Craig recently told her that she would soon come to the end of the internet.
Lynn loved fly fishing and skiing in the mountains of Colorado and float fishing in the rivers of Wyoming. As an avid cook, she enjoyed collecting recipes and sharing them with friends and family. She was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed playing with friends. She had many friends that she kept up with and especially enjoyed the bi-monthly zoom calls and yearly trips with her lifelong friends from Nacogdoches.
She is survived by her husband Craig, daughter Kristin Kirk Nelson, her husband Ryan and their children Jack, Annabelle and Elizabeth, stepdaughter Michelle Hughes Strauss, her husband Robert and their children Aiden, Owen and Andrew, and stepson Ryan Hughes, his wife Celeste and their children Sawyer and Avery. She is also survived by her sister Letty Bousman Bass (Bill) and nephews Will (Brit), Laurance (Annie), niece Carrie and their children.
A committal service was held Saturday March 28,2026 in Nacogdoches Texas for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer a donation in Lynn’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
