I will always cherish the time with my dearest Aunt Lynne.  She always made us all feel God's love and God's grace was always with her... I learned so much from her about being a good person.  if de Tocqueville would have a person who embodied his famous saying over a century ago, it would be my Aunt Lynne.... 

Alexis de Tocqueville once said, "Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits, aflame with righteousness, did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great."  

Aunt Lynne has set a standard for goodness that all of us to strive for....  we can only be great, when we are truly good... WE LOVE YOU, AUNT LYNNE...    

"A TRIBUTE TO MY MAGNIFICENT SISTER, ELVA LYNNE MANN BURGESS"
At two years of age I received a most precious gift of life, My baby sister, Lynne. We grew up sharing a bedroom and bath for eight years. We were best friends and play mates. From Wolf Under the Bridge to sports we were supportive but competitive. Once she even pushed me out of her rocking chair breaking my arm, then helping me heal in a sling !!! When visiting our grandparents in East Texas, we always competed to see who could see Colmesneil first coming over the hills from the south. We learned to swim and dive together from our cousins. Lynne had a beautiful diving form. Christmases were always fun with our six cousins sharing ghost stories on the pallets in front of the living room fireplace. Our grandfather, "Big Daddy" Dr. Jim Mann, chopped the wood and built us a great fire at morning and night. Farm chores were fun times with chickens, pigs, milking Betsy and hunting varmets. 
In school we shared everything. Her Band and my football always complemented, I was given an early driving permit to take at thirteen to drive her to school. She became an outstanding Commander in the Robert E Lee Brigadier Drum and Bugle Corp.
She was always my greatest cheerleader. She and her friends were always for me in sports. She and baby sister, Jan always competed with me for my weight room space in the garage with their multiple starched skirts.  In college at UT she excelled and was a true leader in the Tri-Delt Sorority, a sister to my Fraternity, Sigma Chi. She met married the love of her life, Dan Burgess. They have been a Blessing to our parents and to our extended family in so many ways...The gift of Jana, Steve and Scott as wonderful grandchildren, niece and nephews and cousins to our children. There has been nothing in Lynne's life more cherished than her family!!! Lynne believed and lived daily "First Corinthians 1-9, That Love is First in all Things" She will be with all of us for eternity,  Scott Mann 

Lynne and I pledged Tri Delta at the University of Texas in September, 1961, and also lived at SRD during our freshman year.  We became good friends.  We spent time visiting, laughing,  and sharing dreams during the time we lived at the sorority house.  I remember how excited we all were when Lynne became engaged and how impressed we were with her lovely engagement ring.  After our junior year, Lynne married her greatly loved Dan, and I sang in their wedding.  Lynne was an enchanting bride!.  During our senior year, I often went over to their student apartment and marveled that someone who was such a good friend was a married lady!
When I married Buz White in 1966, Lynne was a bridesmaid.  Happy memories.
We kept in touch for many years.
Lynne and I enjoyed a sweet reunion in Austin a few years ago when Tri Delta celebrated its 100th anniversary on the campus at UT.  We sat by each other at the dinner and caught up.  Lynne was the same lovely, sparkling, encouraging friend I remembered.  The years disappeared as we visited.  It was a great evening.
I send prayers for comfort as you grieve the loss of Lynne.

Lynn and her family lived 1 street over from us in Baytown. My brother was a good friend of her and her friends. We could see her house from our driveway. What a lovely family to have in our neighborhood. When I got to High School, Lynn was the Company Commander for the Robert E. Lee Brigadiers, a Drum and Bugle Corps. No better leader could we have had, as Lynn was perfect for this leadership role. She has always had a Special place in my heart! My deepest sympathy to her family and those who loved her! May our Mighty God bring you all His Abiding Comfort and Peace!

Lynne is survived by her husband Dan Burgess, her three children, Scott Burgess and his wife Carrie Eko-Burgess, Steve Burgess, Jana Burgess Stauffer and her husband Barry Stauffer, her four beautiful grandchildren Max and Mia Burgess, Haddon and Hudson Stauffer, her brother Scott Mann and his wife Marvel Mann; Sisters-in-law, Sue Burgess Atkins and husband Gary, Lynn Burgess Clark and husband Doug; along with many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her mother and father James Scott Mann Jr, Evelyn Mann and her sister Jan Mann Smith and gracious stepmother Martha Mann Derrick
