Dr. Lynnette Kilpatrick Solomon, age 89, most recently of Granbury, Texas passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022. Lynnette was born August 05, 1932, in Lufkin, Texas to parents Bernard Lynn Kilpatrick and Corrie Conner Kilpatrick. Lynnette attended Lufkin High School in Lufkin, Texas. After high school, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, followed by a master’s degree from Texas Christian University and a PhD in Economics from the University of Arkansas. During Lynnette’s career, she taught at Texas Christian University, the University of Arkansas, Henderson State University, Angelina College, and Stephen F. Austin State University. During her tenure at Stephen F. Austin (1979-1994), Lynnette served as Chairperson of the Department of Economics and Finance (1985-1994) and was named Regents Professor in 1989. Lynnette was also an active member of the American Association of University Women where she served as President of the Nacogdoches branch from 1979-1981, National Treasurer from 1983-1985 and Texas State President form 1981-1983. She also was a participant in the International Federation of University Women in Groningen, The Netherlands and a moderator for the AAUW United Nations Seminar in New York City in 1980. An American Fellowship is awarded each year in Lynnette’s name. Lynnette served on the Board of Directors at the Medical Center Hospital in Nacogdoches, as a consultant for the Environmental Protection Agency Administration’s Advisory Committee on Toxic Substances, as Chair of the Special Committee on County Government, state of Arkansas, on the Governor’s Commission for Women, and on numerous other committees and commissions. In addition to her professional career, Lynnette was an avid snow skier and a tennis enthusiast. After retirement, Lynnette served as a guide for the 50+ Ski with Us program in Breckinridge, CO and was awarded the Outstanding Member award by the Loosey-Goosey Ski Club of Summitt County. After her ski career ended, she volunteered at the Nacogdoches Medical Center and participated in the First United Method Church’s mentoring program. Lynnette spent a great deal of time in Houston County at the family farm, hosting family reunions, working on projects with her husband, and generally caring for the family legacy. Lynnette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years Robert Henry Solomon, sister Annie Beth Clayton, and grandson Robby Solomon. Those left to cherish her memory include daughter Carol Solomon Foster and husband Dave; son, James Wayne Solomon and wife Robin; grandchildren, Chloe Foster, Timothy Foster, and Rebecca Solomon; great granddaughter, Amelia Marquez; niece Lisa Clayton, nephews David Clayton and Mark Clayton and numerous cousins. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 9:30 AM at Conner Cemetery, Ratcliff, TX with Reverend Jim Ainsworth officiating.
