

M. Lavon Lunsford was born on October 27, 1937, in Rusk County to Cecil Curbow Lunsford and Malvin Hoyt Lunsford, and passed away on February 24, 2016, at his home in Nacogdoches. He was 78 years old at the time of his death.
Lavon was a member of the Class of 1955 from Mount Enterprise High School and went to work for Texas Power & Light shortly after graduation. He retired from TP&L in 1993 after 37 years with the company.
He was married to Doris Faye Childs on April 20, 1957, and to their union were born two daughters—Angelia and Malinda.
Lavon was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed spending time at the family farm tending his cows. He was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene and faithfully served in a variety of roles over the years.
Lavon is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Doris, his daughter Angie and her husband John Whitsett, daughter Malinda King, sister Joan Robertson, and five grandchildren—Kevin and Collin Whitsett, and Austin, Matthew, and Kayla King.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 27, 2016, at First Church of the Nazarene, 211 SE Stallings Drive, Nacogdoches. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Dagostino III, Rev. John Whitsett, and Rev. Jeff Bell.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2016, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Whitsett, Collin Whitsett, Austin King, Matthew King, Larry King, Richard Robertson, Michael Kenney, and Roger Rice. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Muckleroy, Wayne Schabow, and Floyd Skillern.
A memorial fund in Lavon’s memory has been established by the First Church of the Nazarene, 211 SE Stallings Dr., Nacogdoches, TX 75964.
