Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Labbit. She is survived by her son, Britt Labbit and his wife, Tammy, of Rocksprings, Texas; grandson, Nicolas Labbit and his wife, Brittany, of Longview, Texas; and granddaughter, Samantha Labbit, of Nacogdoches, Texas; a large and loving family, as well as a host of cherished friends.
Martha was born August 2, 1931, in Port Arthur, Texas to parents Joseph and Mary George. She was raised in a large family with a loving sister and three brothers. Martha married Carlton Labbit in 1951, and the two moved to Groves, Texas following Carlton’s time in the Army.
Martha attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where she received her BBA Degree in 1972 and her Master of Education Degree in 1979. In 1986, Martha and Carlton moved to Nacogdoches, Texas. At that time, she left the Port Arthur ISD and began working with Central Heights ISD. She spent most of her time and talents throughout her life on education, teaching, and school administration duties.
Martha was a wonderful cook, decorator, and event planner, who enjoyed growing flowers, spending time with her friends, and volunteering regularly in church activities. She was one of God’s beautiful Angels on earth and will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched.
A visitation for Martha will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors. A rosary will begin at 6:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 2:00 PM, Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel.
Martha will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery, Nacogdoches, Texas.
