Mary Elizabeth “Liz” McCaslin was born to Earla Rita (Beekman) and Darrell Jesse Mattison on April 22, 1941 in Tyler, Texas. Liz was a graduate of Gaston High School. In June 1958, she married Elton Earl “Mac” McCaslin, Sr, in Wright City. In the early 1960’s, Liz and Mac moved their young family to Angleton, TX. In Angleton, Liz worked as a secretary at Calvary Baptist Church where she also played piano and was a frequent soloist. She and Mac were part of the Texas Rabbit Breeder’s Association, members of Brazoria County 4H, and the Simmental Cattle Association. Liz was known to have a green thumb. She loved plants and knew how to make them grow! She loved arts, crafts, and gave painting lessons to young artists. Perhaps Liz’s greatest accomplishment was being “Mom” to three active, red-headed boys: Sonny, Kenny, and Monte. Liz and Mac moved to Nacogdoches, TX, in 1997 and spent their retirement years enjoying their children and grandchildren, frequently in the stands cheering at sporting events.
Liz stepped into her Heavenly Home on Thursday, March 14, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Darrell Jesse Mattison, Jr., her husband, and her son Kenneth Boyd McCaslin. She is survived by sons Elton Earl “Sonny” McCaslin, Jr. and wife Sherry, Monte Dean McCaslin and wife Kristen, daughter-in-law Ramona McCaslin; grandchildren Jennifer Rogers, Josh Trammell, Brittany Vaught, Morgan McCaslin, Kristen Burnett, Tyler McCaslin, and Mackensie McCaslin as well as nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will begin on Saturday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf’s Sunset Chapel, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches.
