

Michael Pete Motley passed from this life on February 4th, 2026, in his home with his family. He was born on May 15th, 1954, in Tyler, Texas, the son of Pete and Sylvia (Woodin) Motley. He was 71 years of age.
Mike was raised in Jacksonville and graduated from Jacksonville High School. He went on to East Texas State University in Commerce, Stephen F. Austin University and attended for a short time at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law. Mike was a life long member of the International Union of Operating Engineers as an heavy equipment operator and traveled extensively for his job. His first pipe line job was the installation of the Alaska Pipeline from 1975 to 1977.
In 1981, Cynthia and Mike moved to Nacogdoches where they have remained. Mike enjoyed spending time on the old Woodin farm in Upshur County where he grew pine trees and appreciated the peacefulness of the land. He loved gardening at his home in Nacogdoches, and especially enjoyed raising pine trees on the farm. The outdoor life was definitely for him.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, and his son, Ryan in 2021. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Cynthia of Nacogdoches; a son, Kenny Tyler and his wife, Meline of Fort Worth; a daughter, Taycé’ Jones and her husband, Randy of Nacogdoches; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mike is also survived by his siblings, Donna Kropp and husband Marty of Jacksonville and RD Motley of College Station.
Per Mike’s wishes, he is being cremated. The family will decide at a later date a time for a memorial gathering. Mike will be greatly missed.
