Growing up humbly in the local Lin Flat community of Texas, Dr. Weatherly learned to read by an oil lamp as they had no electricity. He would earn his bachelors at Stephen F. Austin University by staying with his grandparents and walking to class. He would eventually earn a Masters at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and a Ph.D. In Communication at Ohio State.
He then went onto a prestigious career as a professor at the University of Dayton. Dr. Weatherly retired here in Nacogdoches where he enjoyed dancing, and tending to his small garden.
He is survived by his brother, John; two sisters, Rose and Sarah; his children, Melissa and Justin; his daughter-in-law, Alice; and his good friend, Janet Carver. He will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel.
