Born, Phyllis Janette Collins, May 3, 1945, to John C. Collins, Jr. and Wilma Matlock Collins, the first of 6 children. She was raised in the Harmony community and was a faithful member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church where, in the most recent, past years, she served on the Hospitality Committee and was most invested in service to God. Some of her dearest, most cherished, friends were her church family. Janette attended Nacogdoches ISD schools and graduated Nacogdoches High School in 1963. Soon after, she met and married the love of her life, Roy Sowell, September 28, 1964 and they had celebrated 53 years, together, before his death in March 2018.
Janette enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, cooking for them, keeping her home tidy and clean, eating out with Bobbie and cousins and the holidays. Also, she and Roy traveled the states, a great deal, with family and friends. She had a wonderful, God given talent, for flower arranging and crafts; working multiple shops, and always available to help family and friends with weddings and seasonal decorations. She retired from Stephen F. Austin State University as manager of Special Services for the Baker Pattillo Student Center, arranging room set-ups for all their events.
Janette was a precious, sweet, giving soul, loved and cherished by her family and friends and will be forever missed; her memory always held close in their hearts.
She is survived by her son, Brian Sowell; granddaughters, Amber Sowell Fuchsberger(Robert), Paige Sowell Morris(Justin), Brianna Sowell and Grayce Sowell; great grandchildren, Colton and Cheyenne Walker, and James Fuchsberger.
In addition, brother, Jacky Collins(Regina); sisters, Cheryl Collins Rogers(Harold) and Bobbie Collins Lesley; aunt, Pat Collins, as well as a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and dear friends.
Also, brothers-in-law, Johnny S. Lesley and J. W. Armstrong(Joy); sisters-in-law, Angi Collins, Doris Chumley(Spencer), Cynthia Farr(Wyman) and Ginger Poskey.
Janette was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, Roy, and 2 brothers, Gary and Jerry Collins.
