Born beneath the Texas sun at Camp Worth, San Augustine, Texas. Polly Ann’s spirit carried the warmth of that place wherever she went, through Nacogdoches, Houston, Carrollton, and finally back to her roots in San Augustine.
Polly’s heart was one of pure love. A woman who welcomed all, adored children and animals, and loved with her whole being. Known for her bold spirit and flair for life, she never shied away from her signature animal print clothing, sparkling jewelry, and timeless love for music. Whether in her kitchen or by the pool, music was always playing in the background of her beautiful life. Her laughter would fill the home. Her creativity flourished through cake decorating and ceramics, filling her friends and family’s lives with treasures she crafted by hand. She loved gardening, from growing flowers to tomatoes, and could always be found surrounded by color, beauty, and life. She was bold and beautiful — bright prints, jewelry, red lip stick and shoes for every mood — a reminder that life was meant to be lived out loud.
Polly graduated from San Augustine High School, and she worked with dedication and pride throughout her successful career — first at Otis Engineering, later as the owner of two shoe stores, and eventually retiring from McKesson Corporation.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents, James Alsie Fountain and Jessie Clyde Jimmerson Fountain; her son Jeffrey Randall Rutherford; and twelve cherished siblings, who surely wait to greet her with open arms — Brothers; James Doyle Fountain, Lloyd Edward Fountain, Jesse Bervil Fountain, Welby Austin Fountain, Granvil Terry Fountain, Ronald Lynn Fountain, Sisters; Vivian LeFay Oliver, Rita Mae Mitchell, Billie Joe Fountain, Jeanie Ruth Narlo, Hazel Enid Havard, and Diana Lois Graebner.
Those still blessed by her love include her brother Grady Jerry Fountain and his wife Ruth Ellen Burks Fountain; her son, Scott Greggory Rutherford and his wife Lorraine Ellen McKeag Rutherford; her daughters, Alysia Annyce Rutherford and fiancé Richard McKay Bennett, Kelsey Elynne Rutherford Bennett and husband Stuart Laine Bennett; and her beloved grandchildren, Brandon Scott Rutherford, Savannah Elynne Hermes, Zachary Austin Smith, Zowie Grace Smith, and Aiden Michael Rutherford Velasco and one great grandchild Zayn Levi Smith and many cherished and loved cousins, nieces and nephews — who all carry her light forward. Her family is her greatest treasure.
Polly was an exceptional aunt, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend. Her laughter, strength, and compassion touched all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love that will live on in every heart she touched. Polly did leave her mark — one of kindness, beauty, faith and love.
Graveside service will be at Spring Ridge Cemetery in San Augustine County, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Friday November 28, 2025.
