Bob was born in Houston, Tx where unbeknownst he met his future bride, Lil at the young age of 5 in Sunday school class. After high school, Bob served his country with the Air Force. Upon return from service, Bob and Lil began to date and were married October 16, 1965. Bob and Lil moved to Appleby Sand soon after where he joined the United States Post Office. Upon retirement, Bob and Lil traveled via their RV and enjoyed car shows, quilt shows and spending time together.
Bob was a member of the Nacogdoches Community Church where he was asked to be a deacon. Bob volunteered in various ways including Hospice of East Texas, Women’s Shelter and playing Santa to children in hospital during the Christmas season.
Bob was known to his friends for his humor and he loved music, cars and spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his immediate family of two children, Robert (Rob) C. Melton, Jr. and Deborah Haban, son-in-law Steve Haban, and grandchildren, Grace and Luke Haban. Additionally, he is survived by his extended family of nieces and nephews, Kathy Judkins, Cliff Miller, Elise Miller, Will Miller, and Sarah Miller.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Hatfield Melton and his parents, John C. and Margaret Melton.
We find faith and peace as we believe this time of year was chosen for him being called home in preparation for our Lord and Savior’s birth and our mom’s birthday on Christmas. Bob and Lil were married for 44 years and in waiting for the last 11 years so their reunion will see them together 55 years and forever.
