

Born March 18, 1928 in Cedar Bluff Community, Nacogdoches County, he was the first child of Virgil Stanaland and Lizzie Miller Stanaland. Robert lived his entire life in the Appleby area.
Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue Burnaman Stanaland. He is also survived by sons Terry and wife, Tammy Stanaland, Bobby and wife, Daphne Stanaland; daughters Beth Channel and husband, Larry, and Melinda Stanaland all of Nacogoches, Texas. He is survived by grandchildren Steven Stanaland, Melissa Skelton, Michael Kressin, Misty Kressin, Rebecca Dillon, Jacob Dillon, David Burkhalter, Nathan Burkhalter, Shelby Stanaland, and Kaelyn Stanaland; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by brothers Lenvel, John, and Alvin, all of Nacogdoches, Texas, Edwin of Mabank, Texas, and Vernis of Tyler, Texas; and a sister Estaline Sibley of Tyler, Texas.
As a young man, Robert worked in the dairy business. He transported raw milk from county farms to Houston on a daily basis. He later managed one of the county's largest dairy farms for the Land-O-Pines company.
When the dairy business declined, Robert went into the construction business of building house pads and installing water mains for many community water systems. He was successful at this, especially in making many friends associated with his work.
He was a member of the Antique Car Club and many Domino Clubs. He enjoyed playing 42 and playing in tournaments.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stanaland was preceded in death by sisters Wilma and Ruth; and a brother, Raymond.
Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel at 5400 North Street, Nacogdoches. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park at 5127 North Street.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
Pallbearers will be Steven Stanaland, Nathan Burkhalter, Jacob Dillon, Jeremy Skelton, Bill Stanaland, and Fred Burnaman. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Wallace, Steve Crow, Byron Vandover, and Travis Chandler.
The family would like to give a special thank you to The Hospice of East Texas and Dr. Larry Walker.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to The Hospice of East Texas, 1132 NW Stallings Dr., Nacogdoches, Texas 75964.
