Born to Hub and Mary Nixon on February 1, 1926 in Brownwood, Texas, Juanita and her siblings grew up during the Great Depression era with faith as their guidance and a will to see things through. She graduated from Andrews High School and then Harden Simmons where she earned her degree to follow her passion to teach. Over the next 30 plus years Juanita taught in Andrews, Odessa, Hobbs New Mexico, finally retiring with the Midland Independent School District in 1981. Juanita met her future husband in Andrews, where John A. White Jr. was working for Halliburton. They married in February of 1954 and their sons John A. White III and Dohn Lynn White soon arrived.
If father John was responsible for molding his sons to be men, it was Juanita that taught her boys to be gentlemen. Not only did she guide her boys to discover their spiritual inheritance, but also tutored her sons with their homework. There were also the finer art in washing clothes, ironing, cleaning house, and landscaping a yard. She believed that it was of the utmost importance that her boys know how to take care of themselves after leaving home.
Modest about her talents, Juanita was an excellent artist who loved painting images of Bluebonnets of Central Texas, the desert of West Texas, and the Mountains of the San Juan Wilderness.
After retiring, both John and Juanita moved from Midland, Texas to a small community near Slocum, Texas where they built their home on John’s family homestead. The years to follow were filled with multiple trips across the nation in their RV along with their precious canine companion Sam I and Sam the 2nd.
After John passed away in October of 2006, Juanita stayed with her son Dohn, and then the final three years in Nacogdoches at Stallings Court Nursing Center close to her son John.
Surviving family members including her brother Jerry Nixon and his wife Nancy, sister Jan Nixon Powers, son Dohn L. White and her sweet little dog Sam the 3rd, son John White and his wife Vicki, along with 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
