Thomas Ray Simmons was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 24, 1981. He was the beloved son of Elaine Smallwood (born in Mobile, Alabama) and stepson of Terry McCreary (born in Houston, Texas). He earned his GED and worked diligently as a pallet jack operator for many years. He was known for his strong work-ethic and loyalty. Thomas was a man of laughter and light. Even in his darkest days he found ways to lift others with his humor and kindness. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel seen and heard. He loved fishing, spending time at the beach, relaxing by the campfire and enjoying the presence of his loved ones.
He is survived by the love of his life, Theresa and their daughter, Mary, whom he cherished deeply. His family also includes sister, Sylvia Wallace of Nacogdoches and her husband “Buckshot” Wallace and children Natalie and Gavin Wallace; sister, Rachel Holt and her children, Tyler, Rylie and Ryan, also of Nacogdoches; and twin sisters, Marissa and Melissa of Nacogdoches, Texas. Thomas will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins who cherish his memory and moments they shared together.
Thomas was preceded by many in death, including many beloved family, such as his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Those who he loved dearly and who will remain forever in his heart. While his absence leaves a space no one else can fill, his legacy is alive in each of us. It lives in the kindness we show, the faith we hold onto and the laughter we share, just as he would have wanted.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeffery Simmons, Chad Hollins, Bo Lawson, Edward Jernigan, Tyler Holt, Ryan Holt, Shannon "Buckshot" Wallace, and Gavin Wallace.
Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
