
Opal Mae “Cross” Smith 83, of Napoleon passed away Friday September 13, 2013 at Golden Living Center Northcrest. Born on April 21, 1930 to David Edwin William Cross and Edith Rebecca “Forney” Cross in Putnam Co. Opal graduated from Continental High School. She then married the late Richard Smith on August 17, 1949.
Survived by her children Richard “Rick” (Cathy) Smith of Bath Michigan, and Judy (Dean) VandenBroek of Bowling Green Ohio. Grandmother of Chris and Kevin Smith, Keith, Nicholas and Heather VandeBroek, and also several nieces and nephews.
Opal was a receptionist at Defiance Clinic, and also worked at Rite Aid in Napoleon. She was a member of the VFW Post #8218, American Legion Post #300 and Moose Lodge Post Napoleon.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard and siblings; Viola Ford, Marvel Grant McDougle, Alta Engle, Marie Moore, Oma Cross, brothers Ora Cross “Pete” and William Cross.
Visitation for Opal will be on Monday September 16, 2013 at Snyder Wesche Funeral Home 830 N. Scott St. Napoleon, Ohio from 9:30 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 11:30 at the Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home. Pastor Theodore Rellstab will officiate. A private family committal service will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Opal to Gentiva Hospice.
