

She was born to Arthur H. and Emma (Tietje) Gerken on September 26, 1934 in Freedom Township, Napoleon, Ohio. She attended St. Paul Lutheran School, Napoleon High School and McClure High School. She received a full 3 yr scholarship to Maumee Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio and at graduation was awarded the Anne B. Hawk Award. She returned to Napoleon and married Julian “Dude” Stevens on April 8, 1956 and he preceded her in death on November 16, 1991.
Ruth was employed in the office of J.J. Harrison MD and Thomas Moriarty MD and spent nearly 25 years at the Filling Memorial Home of Mercy in various nursing positions. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its Ladies Guild and Mission Society.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Doug) Fruth, Sharon (Ray) Haas and Tim Stevens; three grandchildren, Kim (Jason) Stevens, Heather (Lloyd) Kinsman, and Jonathan Fruth; six great-grandchildren, Alex Stevens, Cameron Stevens, Natalie Stevens, Evan Stevens, Hunter Kinsman, and Parker Kinsman; three sisters, Evelyn (Calvin) Jaqua, Mary Ann Hawkins, and Connie (Clarence) Ohlinger; two brothers, Delmar (Debbie) Gerken and Eldon (Cindy) Gerken.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Stephanie Fruth on April 5, 2003.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-8 P.M. at the Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home
and on Monday for one hour prior to services at the church.
Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Peter Marcis and Rev. John Holyer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family suggest memorial contributions be given to The St. Paul Lutheran Church or to The Filling Memorial Home of Mercy.
