

Barbara Jean (Sweeney) Costello, 90, of Bedford, NH passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Villa Crest Nursing Home in Manchester. She was born on November 29, 1921 in Charlestown, MA, the daughter of the late Matthew C. and Anna V. (Cassidy) Sweeney.
Barbara was raised and educated in Brighton, MA, graduating from Brighton High School in1939. In 1946, just after WWII, she married her husband John and together they raised four children in the Tewksbury and Wellfleet areas. She worked at St. Williams Church in Tewksbury as the CCD Coordinator for seventeen years until her retirement in 1984. Barbara was a very devoted Catholic who was very involved within the church community. She has been a Nashua resident for the past fifteen years, most recently at Bentley Commons. Barbara enjoyed traveling with her husband, loved to read and loved her Red Sox and Patriots. She enjoyed many theater seasons at the Cape with her beloved Wellfleet Beach Plums.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, John J. Costello in 1990.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Kevin M. Costello and his wife Collene of Grand Junction, CO, and Brian R. Costello of Boston, MA; two daughters, Claudia M. Dufresne and her husband John E. of Hollis, and Colleen M. Murphy and her husband Shaun M. of Warner, NH; two grandchildren, Rory J. Murphy and Danielle C. Dufresne, and a sister-in-law, Helen Parow of N. Andover, MA.
The family greeted friends on Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad Street, Nashua from 10:30am until the 11am Mass of Christian Burial. Internment will take place at Wellfleet Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater New England Chapter, 101A First Ave, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.
