Born on January 22, 1951, in Brockton, MA, to the late Gordon H. Brown and Lillian (Folger) Brown. A graduate of Brockton High School in 1969, she later attended Gordon College. After leaving school, Carolyn relocated to Florida, where she resided in the Apopka area until moving back to New England in 2019.
Ms. Brown began her career in hospitality, working with restaurants and hotels. Ultimately, she joined Sysco Food Distributors, where she spent most of her working years, retiring in 2018. Sysco was more than a job for Carolyn. Her co-workers became friends who were like family. She enjoyed all aspects of her job, especially helping get food out in times of need and working with her U.S. Military clients.
Carolyn loved to explore the outdoors and spent many happy hours during her retirement years on the back roads of New Hampshire and Maine. She especially loved the Maine Coast and was anxious to check out all the lighthouses that mark the seashore. She also loved to garden and enjoyed spending time in her tropical paradise around her home in Apopka and later in New Hampshire, growing her own vegetables and helping to enhance the landscape at her condo. Throughout her life, Carolyn loved to crochet and this continued in her retirement, spending many fun hours socializing and crocheting with her friends and neighbors. A true Boston sports fan, she closely followed the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots and was always up for watching college football.
In the past year, Ms. Brown took on the role of President of the Homeowners Association for Secretariate Estates, a condo and single-family home association where she had lived since 2019. She was engaged with that community through a shared love of New England, leisure time activities, and gardening.
Most important to Carolyn, and what drew her back to New England, was time spent with family and friends. She enjoyed reconnecting with people after being out of the area for so many years and making many new friends at her condo. She also continued to foster connections with those she had met in Florida, making sure to meet up with them when their travels brought them to New England.
She is survived by three siblings: Janet Sherman and her husband Bill of Kittery, ME, Donald Brown of Portsmouth, RI, Richard and his wife Edie of Townsend, MA. She also leaves a niece Beth Ann Brown her husband Scott Matthews, and a nephew Christopher Brown and his wife Kelly, all of whom formed her close-knit family. Several other nieces, grandnieces and nephews, and a great grandniece and nephew also survive her. Carolyn was pre-deceased by a brother, Robert G. Brown, and a much-loved sister-in-law, Carole H. Brown.
At Carolyn's request, there will be no services. Friends wishing to remember her could spend the day outdoors soaking up the sun, visiting a favorite spot or enjoying time with family and friends.
Those who wish to remember Carolyn through donations may consider American Lighthouse Foundation (lighthousefoundation.org) or Maine Coast Heritage Trust (mcht.org).
