OBITUARIO
David Charles Drescher
2 enero , 1931 – 28 diciembre , 2020
David Charles Drescher, 89, passed away on Dec. 28, 2020 at home surrounded by family and his loyal dog Allie. Dave was born Jan. 2, 1931 in Manchester, NH to the late Mary (Wyskiel) and John Drescher. He was introduced to Joan Talty on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. They married in 1958 at which time they moved to Nashua where they raised four children.
After graduating in 1948 from St. Joseph High School in Manchester, Dave earned a degree in math from St. Anselm College in 1952. He then studied electrical engineering, earning a BS from UNH and a master’s degree from WPI. Dave worked as an electrical engineer at Sanders Associates & Lockheed Sanders for 30 years.
Dave was involved in youth sports for many years. He coached the Giants, a team in the Nashua Cal Ripken youth baseball league, for 54 years, including this past season. This long-term and unusual commitment brought David great pride and joy. He was known for his Mother’s Day tradition of making sure each player on his team had a flower to give to his or her mother. In 2010, a baseball field in Nashua was named in his honor and in 2011, he was inducted into the New Hampshire Cal Ripken Hall of Fame. David found lifetime friends in many of his assistant coaches. In addition to coaching baseball, he assisted in coaching high school basketball with Bishop Guertin, Manchester West and Manchester Central.
In addition to coaching and work, Dave also enjoyed going to Red Sox games and his camp in Meredith that he and his father built by hand over 65 years ago. He looked forward to attending Saint Anselm basketball games and was welcomed at games by the players. He was an avid reader, especially of history, and would often visit historical sites on vacation.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dave’s medical team who worked tirelessly in the past month to improve his quality of life: Dr. Kosofsky. Dr. Joffre, Dr. Yong and Dr. McDonah. For several years, Dave received exceptional care from Home Health and Hospice, especially nurse Kimberly Vissa.
In addition to Joan, his wife of 62 years, David is survived by two sons, David of St. Louis and Stephen of Nashua and two daughters, Kristen of Omaha and Lisa of Nashua.
A walk through visitation will be held between 3:30pm-6:30pm on Monday January 4, 2021 at Zis-Sweeney & St. Laurent Funeral Home located at 26 Kinsley St, Nashua, NH 03060. I have known Dave and Joan and their kids since I was 6 years old as my father coached the XL little league team together with Dave ⚾️ After my brothers played on the team....they continued to coach together. He and his wife attended my wedding, I observed a surgery he had and now he has joined my dad mom and brother in heaven. I told Joan today at the wake that Dave and my dad are going to coach together again in heaven. She agreed 💕. My condolences to Joan David Kristen Steve and Lisa. May Coach Dave RIP. Love you all, Lori Orleans-Sliz

May Mr. Drescher rest in eternal peace. I always enjoyed my conversations with him before the Saint Anselm basketball games. His love for the game and toughness was palpable any time he stepped foot into the gym for a Saturday afternoon game. His motivation to do everything in his will power to get in a gym was inspiring, and will be something I always remember. To Steve and the rest of the Drescher family, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I know how important your father was to the family, and I know his spirit will live on through you. May he Rest In Peace - John Mariano

Coach Drescher was such an amazing mentor + advocate for the game of baseball. As a team member on his XL days, he made it exciting to head to Harris Park and to play with my teammates. His approach to life was appreciated and one that my family talked about many times over the years.
My best to the entire Drescher family!

I always enjoyed umpiring games Dave’s team was playing. He spent time teaching and working with his players. I always enjoyed talking about the game with him. The Nashua baseball community has lost a great example of good sportsmanship and excellent coaching.

Both me and my son are saddened to hear of Dave's passing. Dave coach my son in Little League baseball for several years and was not only a great coach but a caring and great example for the kids under his care. I remember going to every game and every practice Dave exhibited that rare blend of caring, compassion and discipline that kids need. I also worked with Dave at Sanders Associates. Blessings to him and to his family. He will be missed and remembered.

My deepest sympathies to David”s family. I have thought about Mr. Drescher so often and fondly over the years. He was the coach of my little league team XL Corp for a couple of years. He was such a wonderful and kind man and I really appreciate his dedication to the youth in Nashua

Dave is a true inspiration to my family and myself. He taught many people the meaning of hard work, dedication and doing things the right way. He was my Nashua South all-star team coach in 1970, and coached both our sons for 4 years each on the Giants and their respective all-star experiences. He was always there to help during some of our family’s difficult times, and he shared in some of our happiest times. He was a very good friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave, Joan, his family and countless friends.

I have known Coach for almost 8 years or so with my connection to Cal Ripken. I was President of Cal for 2 years and he came to every Board meeting I had and he also kept us honest. With Coach not having a kid in the league I could always count on him for honest and passionate feedback to keep us grounded. He was all baseball and knew it well. I loved coaching against him and talking baseball. I will miss him this year at try-outs and on the field. He was one of a kind and a Nashua Baseball legend. I will always remember to tell my kids don't throw to third with 2 outs. It will be tough to coach against the Giants without him there. I will miss him. My condolences go out to the whole Drescher family and he will be in my thoughts.

The first time we met Coach Dave, I was an opposing coach, must have been around 1978 when our son John played for the Knights of Columbus. I left coaching when John moved on to high school ball a few years later, as so many of Coach’s boys did. Coach Dave stayed on. Simply put, he just loved those kids with an unbelievable dedication that is difficult to put into words. Little did any of us know that many years later, Nick – the oldest of our 3 Nashua grandsons would play for the Giants under Coach Dave – followed in order by Nick’s brothers Ryan and Andrew … all the while with the help of our son, Dave’s Assistant Coach, John. That is the sort of coach and the sort of man that Dave Drescher was. You wanted him to coach your kids … and then, if you were lucky enough, your grandkids. His teams were like a big family. Joan, Steve, and the rest of the family – we loved Coach, and we love you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always.

Coach was an amazing man! He taught so much to our children, respect, hard work and an even greater love for baseball. The quote “left ear right shoe “ is what he would say to my lefty pitcher. These words we still say today when he’s on the mound. When we participated in the drive by to show him our thanks we saw how many people loved and respected him. Thank you Coach for all you did !!! We will miss you!!
