
Eugene Scott (93), formerly of Palmetto Bay, Florida passed away peacefully on December 16th, 2020. Gene was born on February 28th 1927. He was the son of (the late) Irwin Scott and Freida (Tkatch) Scott.
Gene was a WW II veteran and served in the 78th Infantry Division, 310th Infantry battalion. He was honorably discharged from army reserves in 1950 at the rank of Sergeant. He grew up in Cleveland Ohio, graduated from Cleveland Heights High and went on to college at the University of Miami; graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Gene was the Director of Water & Sewer Operations. He was an Engineer at the Department of Environmental Resources, both jobs serving the Miami Dade County in Florida. He was a long-time member of the Dade Native Plant Workshop and the Audubon Society.
Gene loved his wife and true love, Gwladys Scott. They were adventurers and traveled the world together. Photography was his passion and his pictures from Antarctica to the Everglades will live on in beauty forever. He also loved their naturalized Florida homestead that he and Gwladys and their children built together with their own hands.
Gene is survived by his son, Edward N. Scott (Kate Thorndike) of Nelson, NH; son, Craig M. Scott (Su Wrench) of Waynesboro, VA; Daughter-In-Law, Amy Scott of Cranford, NJ; step-son, Walter Stevens of Miami, FL; step-son Alex Stevens of Bend, OR; step daughter, Nancy Stevens Pappas (Gary) of Miami, FL; grandchildren, Zac, Gabe, Emma, Jake and Rebecca Scott and step-grandchildren, Chris and Nicole Stevens and Chloe and Dylan Pappas. Gene was predeceased by his father, Irwin Scott, his mother, Freida Scott, his brother, Melvin Scott and his son, Jordan B. Scott.
A private family service will be held somewhere close to his beloved Florida Everglades next spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eugene Scott’s name to the Dade Native Plant Workshop. http://nativeplantworkshop.ning.com.
