

Lt. Col. John Wallace Tisdell (“Jack”), 89, of Nashua, NH, formerly of Swampscott, and Worcester, MA; passed away on Monday, November 16, 2009 in Nashua, NH. Born in Worcester MA, on July 13, 1920, he was the son of the late George P. and Marie (Jensen) Tisdell, and the husband of the late Mary (Donohue) Tisdell.Mr. Tisdell graduated from Classical High School in Worcester in 1939, and attended New England School of Accounting, until 1941 when he entered the US Army during WWII. He was wounded in battle, receiving 3 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for Meritorious Service in Normandy. Following the end of the War, he served with the Army Reserves, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1980. In 1946, he also began his 34-year career with New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1980 as the Division Staff Manager in the Public Service Department.Mr. Tisdell and his family settled in Swampscott in 1956, and lived there until 1987 when he and his wife retired to Nashua, NH. For 17 years, he held various positions with his passion the Swampscott Little League, including several years as treasurer and president. He chaired the United Way Campaign of Lynn and was a member of the Board of Directors of Union Hospital. After moving to Nashua, Mr. Tisdell was an involved parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church and was a former member and Vice Chairman of the Parish Council. Since 1999, he has served in numerous executive board and officer positions with the National 83rd Infantry Division Association (of World War II), and had been involved with various activities at Langdon Place in Nashua, where he has lived for the past 7 years.Mr. Tisdell leaves his five children; John P. Tisdell and his wife Darlene of Amherst, NH, Anne M. Tisdell of Worcester, MA, Stephen A. Tisdell and his wife Ellen of Brentwood, TN, Dr. Elizabeth J. Tisdelland her husband Terrence Miles of Harrisburg, PA, and David A. Tisdell and his wife Betsy Rich of Morrisville, VT, nine grandchildren six great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Cecelia (“Teala”) Bowe of Worcester, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Langdon Place for his excellent care. Calling hours were held on Thursday, November 19, 2009 from 3pm to 7pm at the Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley Street, Nashua, NH 03060. A Mass of Christian Burial wa celebrated on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 216E. Dunstable Rd. Nashua, NH. Burial followed at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester, MA.
