 Obituario de Alice Blanche Nardi
Nashville, Indiana. Alice B. Nardi, 98, formerly of Clinton, Indiana, passed away on December 11, 2020 at Brown County Health and Living in Nashville, Indiana. She was born on December 27, 1921 in Clinton, Indiana to Antonio and Julia (Franzino) Mattioda. She graduated from Clinton High School and from Wabash Brown’s Business College in Terre Haute, Indiana after high school. She married Frank “Jake” Nardi in March of 1941. She and Jake made their home in Klondyke, R.R. 3 Clinton, a short distance from her family home where she grew up. Alice and Jake raised their three children, Geraldine, Clarine, and Frank together until Jake’s unexpected death on March 21, 1962. After Jake’s death, Alice was employed at the Van Duyn Elementary School and later at the Admissions Office at Indiana State University until her retirement. Alice was an avid gardener and continued to add to the vegetable and flower gardens and orchard that she and Jake had started. She believed in eating healthy fresh food and often shared the bounty of her garden, especially from her asparagus patches with family and friends, and couldn’t stand to see an unharvested wild black walnut on the ground go to waste. She was also an avid reader and took special interest in keeping up with the news, especially politics. While she was never involved in politics, she relished a good political discussion and took pride in the fact that she was always one of the first people at the polls to vote on primary and election days. She was proud of her Italian ancestry and the sacrifices that her parents made in order to immigrate to America, and often reminded her children and grandchildren of this. She believed in the value of education and made sure that her children would get a college degree. She was an active person over the years and when she was 88 years old sailed the Intercoastal Waterway from Maryland to Florida and back with her daughter Gerry and son-in-law Larry. She loved her family, friends, and neighbors, and especially appreciated her nephew David Osella and his wife, Anita, and niece, Elizabeth Davis and her husband, Chad, as well as her neighbors, Harold and Barbara Benskin, who all watched over her and helped her live independently in her home as long as possible. Alice is survived by her three children, Geraldine (Larry) Rossi of Cambridge, Maryland; Clarine Nardi Riddle of Alexandria, Virginia; Frank (Brenda) Nardi of Nashville, Indiana; grandchildren: Shana (Josh) Talley, Carl (Laura Ibanez) Riddle, Julia (Michael Clark) Riddle, Frank Joseph (Maggie) Nardi, Aaron (Jordan) Rossi, Adam Nardi, and David Nardi and great grandchildren: Soloman Nardi, Sabin and Marina Talley, Lucy Riddle, and Clementine and Olive Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake, her parents, and her brothers and sisters: Guiseppe Mattioda, Caterina Mattioda, Secundo (Si) Mattioda, Fortunato Mattioda, Catherine Osella, Bruno Mattioda, Dominic (Condo) Mattioda, Octavia Procarione, Lawrence Mattioda, and Rosemary Smith. No services are scheduled at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home of Nashville, Indiana. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.BondMitchellFuneral Home.com. Suggested memorial contributions would be to the Alzheimer’s Association, to plant a tree in her memory through the Arbor Day Foundation or to the donor’s choice of charities.
