

Carl Dudley Austin, age 87, of Nashville, Indiana passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Beloved husband of Kathryn Dellinger Austin. Loving father of Karen (Dan) Gormley, Kelly (Scott Hurwitz) Austin, Craig (Lynn) Austin. Proud grandfather of Molly and Will Austin and Sadie and Leah Hurwitz. Cherished brother of Diane (Tony) Jabaley and Cynthia (the late Robert) Daughtry. Wise and fun-loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his brother Randall (Judy) Austin and his sisters, Ruth (the late Harald) Bowman, Pam (the late Paul) Strode, and Joyce Bowman.
Carl was the son of Condee Austin and Adelaide Irving Austin. He spent his early childhood in Portland, Maine, before moving to Indianapolis, Indiana. He met Kathryn at Arsenal Technical High School, and in 1958, they were married and began building an incredible life together.
As a teenager, Carl was a stock clerk and bagger at Standard Grocery. His work ethic and talents propelled him into management roles, and in 1965, he relocated to Bloomington, Indiana, where he opened and managed a new store. In 1967, he pursued a career in insurance, joining ABC Insurance. In 1971, he purchased the Leonard Welch Insurance Agency in Nashville, Indiana, which eventually became the Austin Insurance Agency.
Upon moving to Nashville, Indiana, in 1972, Kathryn and Carl became deeply involved in the town’s civic and social life. Carl volunteered with the Lions Club, the Brown County Chamber of Commerce, the Brown County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Brown County Mental Health Board. Kathryn and Carl are charter members of New Life Community Church and federated members of Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Maria, Florida.
Carl had many passions and pursuits. He loved all things with engines - cars, boats, motorcycles, and model trains. He was a passionate fisherman. He took pleasure in woodworking. He was an avid reader. He loved travelling the world with Kathryn and, in retirement, spending their winters on Anna Maria Island. He cherished family gatherings and savored time with his grandchildren.
A Memorial Service is being planned for 2:00pm, Sunday, August 10, at the Brown County Inn, 51 State Road 46E, Nashville, Indiana.
