Coretta spent her working years as an Academic Advisor for the Biology Department at Indiana University until her retirement.
Coretta is survived by her children Shaun (Wendy) York of Indiana, Toni (Dan) Schroer of Florida, and her grandchildren Jacob Booth and Samuel York, her Scottie, Lessie Lou, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Lisa Lynne York, and brothers Calvin Burris and Paul Burris.
Coretta was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nashville and the philanthropic sorority Psi Iota Xi.
In her free time, most of all, Coretta cherished spending time with family and friends. Cooking delicious meals, pies and cookies for them brought her much joy. While an avid reader and gardener, Coretta also spent time knitting gloves, hats, scarves, and sweaters for everyone. Time on her porch was spent feeding and watching birds and deer who visited her back yard. She loved all animals, especially her Scottie dogs and canaries. Coretta also enjoyed cheering on the Indiana Hoosiers and Indianapolis Colts and watching many, many tennis matches.
Coretta meant so much to family and friends and she will be dearly missed.
A memorial service celebrating Coretta’s life will be held at a later date.
