John "Jack" Noel Knapp

John Noel Knapp, age 86, of Franklin, Indiana died Monday afternoon, May 27 at the Otterbein United Methodist Community in Franklin. Born January 6, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Louis C. and Esther B. (Bishop) Knapp. John received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Marquette University. He retired from the Contracts office of Detroit Diesel Allison, a Division of General Motors, in Indianapolis. John was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Nashville. John (or Jack, as he was known to his friends and family) was happiest when sitting around a table, deep in conversation with everyone there. He loved camping with his wife, Barbara, and almost every summer found them driving north to the shores of Lake Michigan. His children’s earliest memories are the sounds of a hissing Coleman stove, the wind blowing through pine trees, and waves sounding on a beach. John is survived by his wife, Barbara (Pietrek) Knapp; of Franklin; his five children, Mary (William) Carter, of Muncie, Kathleen Raasch, of Greenwood, Carol Knapp, of Greencastle, William (Jennifer) Knapp, of Walnut Creek, California and Barbara (George) Pavliscak, of Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, one sister, Meredith Bishop, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one cousin, Robert Bishop, of Chicago, Illinois, twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters in infancy, and two sons-in-law, Thomas Raasch and Kelly Baker. A Memorial Mass will be on Monday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Nashville, Indiana with Fr. Eric Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville. Friends may visit the family on Monday, June 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be given to Special Olympics.
