John Clayton McGee

He was a father, brother, uncle and a kind soul that left this world far too soon at the age of 55. He passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025 at his residence in Spencer Indiana.

Born on March 10, 1970, he was the son of Dennis & Carol Humphreys McGee. He was a self -employed contractor and was an expert in numerous construction trades.

John was known for his kindness, curiosity, energy and unshakable sense of optimism. He always seemed to have a gift to connect with anyone he encountered and never knew a stranger.

From a young age John was drawn to the woods and nature. It was a calling to seek new adventures, truth, movement, growth and he was at peace in the woods. It was a refuge for him whether it was working in the woods, quietly walking, finding ginseng or listening to the trees, this was where he felt at home, under the open skies.

He was a dreamer, full of ideas and plans that kept his spirit young, he always had a new idea in the works and he was always excited to share with anyone that would listen.

He was a very hard worker and would do anything for his family. He was a dedicated family man and someone you could always rely on to help, listen or give advice.

John was a dedicated early riser, he cherished the quiet magic of the early morning, waking up before the rest of the world and getting a jump start to the day, with his coffee in hand and his thoughts wandering. He was a dreamer always trying to find a new adventure and was known for the best stories one could tell. Although he is no longer with us, his dreams, his stories and his light live on in the hearts of all that were lucky enough to have known him. May he rest in peace in the woods he cherished so much.

John is survived by his two children Triston Greene and Johnathon McGee, both of Spencer, one sister Lori (John Kirby) McGee of Bloomington, one brother Michael (Kim) McGee of Nashville and four nephews, Aiden & Alex McGee and Gunner & Maxx McGee.

He was preceded in death by both his parents Carol & Dennis McGee.
