

Laverne Hedrick-Andrew, 80, of Columbus passed away May 7 at her home. She was born March 13, 1934 in Martinsville, IN the daughter of Thomas & Opal (Schoolcraft) McDaniel. They preceded her in death. Laverne was raised in Brown County & was a 1952 graduate of Van Buren High School. She was a cheerleader for their basketball team. She began her career working at J.C. Penney in Columbus. She retired from Arvin Industries after 44 years of service. Most of those years she worked in payroll at the 17th Street location of Arvinal. Many employees have said Laverne was the prettiest girl to have worked at the plant & she would stop the presses when walking through the factory to collect time cards. Laverne enjoyed traveling with her husband, Joe, to places she had never seen before, especially the Rocky Mountains, going on cruises, & vacationing with her grandchildren in Florida. She was a huge fan of Joe’s Senior Softball games, hunting mushrooms, & sports cars. Laverne enjoyed staying in shape by line dancing 4 days a week, walking, & pilates. People were amazed at how adept she was at raising flowers around the house, with neighbors stopping by to admire them. She enjoyed watching basketball games, especially IU & her son, Randy at Brown County High School where he was part of the 1976 team that won the regional championship. Laverne enjoyed watching her son, Ric, play guitar in his Bluegrass Band. When her boys were young they played in The Hedrick Boys Bluegrass Band with their cousins. Laverne followed the band all over the area. She was a beautiful, outgoing, caring woman who was always smiling. She was a strong Christian woman who read her Bible daily. She attended Parkview Church of the Nazarene, Nashville. She loved little kids, especially her grandchildren. Laverne raised her 2 sons, Ric & Randy Hedrick near Story, IN while married to Ted Hedrick. She & her husband of 24 years, Joe Andrew, presently lived in Columbus. She belonged to Total Fitness Club, Topps Club & Mill Race Community Center.
Survivors include, her husband, Joe K. Andrew I, Columbus, sons, Ric (Charmaine) Hedrick, Randy (Vicki) Hedrick, all of Brown County, stepchildren, Charlotte Weiske & Joe (Alyssa) Andrew II, of Greenwood, grandchildren, Justin Hedrick, Amber (Kevin) Hill, Sara (Andy) Brandstatter, Jaclyn Hedrick, Sara, Mike, & Matt Weiske, great grandchildren, Cole & Dalton Hedrick, Kaleigh & Wylan Hill.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, May, 12 at 11:00 A. M. at Parkview Church of the Nazarene, 1750 State Road 46 East, Nashville, In with David Hays officiating, burial will follow in Christiansburg Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the church Sunday, May 11 from 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. & 1 hour prior to the service. These services have been entrusted to Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, Nashville.
