Major Andrew Jackson Baker, Jr., age 88 passed away April 18, 2018. He was pre-deceased by parents Andrew J. and Stella Baker. Survived by daughters Dianna Baker, Nancy Baker, and Helen Franklin, and his 6 grandsons.
Andrew attended Andrew Jackson Elementary and graduated from Dupont High School in 1948. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1952 with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Andrew joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952 as Aviation Cadet earning his pilot wings and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant (as Lt) He spent 20+ years as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. He flew approximately 55 missions as a B52 Aircraft Commander in the Vietnam War. While stationed in South Korea from 1968 to 1969 he met and married his Korean sweetheart, Yu Hoe Kyong. Andrew and Hoe Kyong married and spent 34 years until her passing in 2004.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Plummer officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Family & friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 12 pm until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
