

Chuck Cape was born in Heidelberg, Germany on May 15th, 1961 to Margaret Joann and Charles M. Cape. Chuck grew up in Anderson, SC, graduating from T.L. Hanna High School in 1979. While at T.L. Hanna, he was a member of the marching band’s drumline, going on to be the drum major his senior year. He continued his education at Anderson University for two years, then transferred to Clemson University, gaining his bachelor’s degree in computer science then earning his master’s degree in the same field.
Chuck worked in IT development and management for several companies, landing at General Motors in 2013, where he finished his career with a joyful & well-deserved retirement on May 30th, 2025.
Chuck always had a love for music and was a gifted pianist. He started his music career at age 15 playing in his father’s band, Magic. He created his own band, Omni, in 1985 while still working his full time IT job. He moved to North Carolina in 1988, growing his band during his time there. Chuck moved to Marietta, GA in 1995 where his band became The Neons, one of Atlanta’s premier party bands. In addition, he wrote, arranged, and recorded over 35 songs for two of his own albums. Several of his songs can be heard in television shows & movies. He also regularly contributed to the music program at church.
Chuck had many diverse hobbies, including racquetball, reading, traveling, movies, and his new favorite, pickleball. Chuck was known for his playful sense of humor, loving to share a joke or funny story.
Chuck’s greatest love was his family. He is survived by his wife Sharon Shockley Cape; children Lauren Cape Newell (Kyle), Sarah Catherine Cape, & Maryanne Stumb McWhirter (Terrell); grandchildren Ava Newell, Anne Blair & Paul McWhirter; father Charles M. Cape (Madeline); sister Cynthia Cape Smith (Ashley); sister-in-law Sandie Shockley Stegall (Ben); nieces Chelsea & Hannah Swanson, Joanna Smith and nephew Joseph Smith. He is preceded by in death his mother Margaret Joann Cape and stepson Paul C. Stumb Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dunwoody United Methodist Church in memory of Chuck (1548 Mt. Vernon Rd. Dunwoody, GA 30338) or the charity of your choice.
The family will receive visitors at Dunwoody United Methodist Church in Dunwoody, GA on Saturday, September 13th, 2025 at 11:45am with a memorial service following at 1:00pm. There will also be a visitation on Friday, September 19th, 2025 at Woodmont Christian Church in Nashville, TN from 4:00-6:00pm.
Chuck will be missed by his loving family who will cherish the memories made during the time they had together, and he will remain in their hearts forever. His family appreciates all the prayers, support, and love of others.
