Charles R. “Dude” Griffith passed away peacefully at his home on June 8th, 2025, surrounded by his wife and four children. He was 81 years old and was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was a graduate of Father Ryan High School and a sergeant with the Metro Nashville Police Department. Charlie spent his life bringing people together. He coached basketball at St. Ann’s Catholic School, was commissioner of the parochial football league and a 3rd degree Knight of KC Council 544 on Bosley Springs Road. Charlie spent his retirement years volunteering as a starter at McCabe Golf Course. He knew every blade of grass on McCabe’s golf course. He scored a hole in one on a par 3, was a member of the Sweat Hogs Golf league and the Twilight league. But nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his wife Rita and family and friends at “Dude’s” cabin in Wayne County. He built that cabin with his own hands but shared it with his heart. It was his Heaven on earth, and he wanted everyone to have a piece of it.
Charles was proceeded in death by his parents Sarah Elizabeth Batey and Edward Thomas Griffith and grandson Gunner Griffith. He is survived by his loving wife Rita Claire (Forte), siblings: Tommy (Jean), Joe (Ruby Jo), Puddin (Bill) Scheffer, Kathleen (John) Herb, Bill (Patty) and Jim (Gina), children: Randy (Brooke), Mark (Missie), Lori (Mike) Rose, Lee Ann (Jeff) Johnson grandchildren: Hannah (Jessica Bloom) Griffith, Charles III (Ashley) Griffith, Shelby (David) Morton, Chloe Collins (fiancé Alex Moore), Jackie (Grant) Bauman, Ainsley Collins (partner David Orellana), Logan (Hayleigh) Griffith, Will Rose (fiancé Landyn Bagwell), Cooper Griffith, Griff and Leo Johnson.
