

Howell III, Charles Andrew – passed away October 27, 2011. He was born December 30, 1930 in Brentwood, Tennessee to the late, Charles Andrew Howell, Jr. and Helen Buchanan Howell. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Johnson Howell. Mr. Howell is survived by his wife, Juliet (Julie) Harb Howell; sons, Charles Andrew Howell IV (Margaret), Richard Harb Howell (Jennifer), Robert Fletcher Howell (Barbie), Patrick Buchanan Howell (Gretchen); sister, Helen Howell Palmer-Ball, Louisville, KY; five grandsons and granddaughters, Katie Buchanan, Margaret ASH, Julianne Johnson, Suzanne Robertson, Amanda Bahia, and Lillian Reid Howell. After graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1948 Mr. Howell attended The University of the South, David Lipscomb College and Pepperdine University. He served in Tennessee Air National Guard, elected Charter Member Metro Nashville Davidson County Council, 1962, Republican Nominee Public Service Commission, 1964. He was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives, 1968 and Republican Nominee for Tennessee State Senate, 1970. While Sole Proprietor of Howell Construction he was instrumental in preservation of the Nashville Federal Customs House and the North Front at Belmont University. He was active in restoration and preservation of numerous Tennessee antiquities. He was also founding Chairman Franklin Road Academy, 1971, CEO Historic Nashville, served as Assistant Commissioner of Finance and Administration and Commissioner of Conservation during the administration of Governor Lamar Alexander, CEO Cumberland Science Museum, Presidential and Vice Presidential Elector, 1988, Founder of Trust for the Future, 1985 and member of Woodmont Christian Church and the Nashville Downtown Rotary Club. Visitation will be conducted on Sunday from 5-7 pm and from 9-10 am on Monday at Woodmont Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Monday, October, 31, 2011 at Woodmont Christian Church. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Grandsons and nephews will serve as Pallbearers: Charles Andrew Howell, V, Richard Harb Howell, Jr., Patrick Buchanan Howell, Jr., Robert Fletcher Howell, Jr., Christian Thomas Howell, Robert Johnson Howell, Jr., Lewis Bandy Howell, Lawrence Bernard Palmer-Ball, II, Charles Christopher Palmer-Ball, Richard Hilmey Harb, Jr., Scott Daniel Harb, Gregory Alan Harb, Ralph Carlos Cabage, III, and Michael Thomas Cabage. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Woodmont Christian Church or charity of choice.
