

He was born in Cuba on August 13, 1931. David graduated from Seminario Bautista de la Habana (Baptist Seminar of Havana) where he received a Degree in Divinity.
He was married to Gisela Batista Torres on October 30, 1956 in Santiago, Cuba. David was a Southern Baptist minister for 40 years with the North American Mission Board. He served as pastor for Iglesia Bautista de Luyano (Cuba) as well as a mission church, Altura de Luyano. He was also the editor of the Voz Bautista (Baptist Voice) a Southern Baptist Regional magazine. In 1967 the family moved to the U.S. where he served as a missionary with the Home Mission Board. He began working with Jacksonville Baptist Association where he served at Hendricks Baptist Church and Lake Shore Baptist Church with the Spanish speaking families. In 1974 the family moved to First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach, FL where he grew the mission into what is today Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana de West Palm Beach. In 1983 he and his wife moved to Marietta, GA to work with a Spanish mission at the First Baptist Church of Marietta. This mission became the Primera Iglesia Bautista de Marietta, where he retired in 1994.
In 2017 they moved to Tennessee where they joined Bellevue Baptist Church as members. He was passionate about baseball and a loyal Atlanta Braves fan. He always enjoyed his morning Cuban coffee and was an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife Gisela B. Torres, 92, his children: Prisca T. Hill (Timothy) of Fairview, TN, Josue Torres (Connie) of Lebanon, VA, and Vasti Torres of Bloomington, IN. His grandchildren include: Jonathan C. Hill of Eugene, OR, Ana M. Hill of Lansing, MI, T. Jared Hill (Erika) of Manchester, MI, and David N. Torres of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eduardo J. Torres and Paula Ravelo Torres, as well as his 4 siblings Emilio, Israel, Dorcas and Efrain.
A gathering of family & friends for David will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2:30 PM, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204. A committal service will occur Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 3:30 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the address below to support Iglesia Bautista de Luyano, the church David helped establish in Cuba.
