

Dorothy Jones Sipe was born on July 15, 1915 in Davidson County, TN at the Union Hill farm of her parents the late Richard E. (Dick) Jones and Bessie Powers Jones. She was a graduate of Goodlettsville High School (1935). She was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. She retired from the Tennessee Baptist Convention’s office in Brentwood, TN in 1981. Dorothy was married to Charles L. Sipe on Nov. 30, 1939. Mr. Sipe died in 1973. She was married to James P. Skaggs on Feb.3, 1992. Mr. Skaggs died in 1997. Besides her parents and husbands Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved son Richard E. Sipe, her sister Margaret Waggoner Ramsey and her brothers Y.B. and R.E. Jones, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sipe Carpenter (John A.), granddaughters Beth Cooksey(Terry), Alison Bueschen (Tony) and Cathy Speers and great grandchildren Matt and Lauren Cooksey, Luke and Will Elliott, and Grace and Max Speers and Halle K. Carpenter. She is also survived by her devoted sister Merrill Jones Waynick. Step daughters who survive are Sue Lockhart (Jerry), Faye Baldock and Peggy Bush and their families. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who were devoted to her. Dorothy was a member of Judson Memorial Baptist Church. She enjoyed volunteering at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, traveling and was a loyal supporter of alumni activities at Goodlettsville High School. She was frequently seen hiking at Radnor Lake as long as her health permitted. Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 at Woodlawn from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 11:30 a.m. will be led by Dr. Gene Mims and Rev. Bill Highsmith at Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204. A grave side service will be held at the Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery 1301Union Hill Road Goodlettsville, TN at 1:30 p.m. TheWinsome Sunday School Class at Judson, John and Ruth Freeman and John and Julia Wikswo will serve as honorary pall bearers. Nephews and great grandsons will serve as active pall bearers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Judson Library (4900 Franklin Road 37220) or Friends of Radnor Lake (1160 Otter Creek Rd. 37220).
