Doug gave a seminal talk in Budapest, Hungary, in September, 1975, which was considered as a milestone for studying stellar activity. His proceedings paper has 480 references to date. At that time I have just finished MSc in astronomy and was given the lifelong subject of stellar activity for my career by the director  of Konkoly Observatory, initiated by Doug's work. This research made me happy during the previous decades. I will never forget our common works, from an (at that time) isolated country, and his friendship and kindness. Dear Mimi, Frank had just informed me on the sudden passing of Doug. My wife Elfi and me still remember the nice days we had when we were in Nashville. Doug was my mentor, and I thank him for this. Our deepest and sincerest condolances from overseas,

Doug was one of my first connections to the Middle Tennessee astronomy community when I arrived in 1987. He was an honorable, kind, intelligent, funny, and caring person, and I shall miss him. My condolences to his family and wide circle of friends and colleagues. His stars will always shine brightly.

Dear Mimi, I cannot tell you how saddened I was to hear that Doug passed away.  He was, as you know, my mentor, my role model, and my friend.  Even after I left astronomy for many years, I always thought of Doug, and always very fondly.  His friendly, supportive, and relaxed manner belied a very deep intelligence, and a curiosity and love of both science and teaching.  He will always be one of my role models and my friend.  The many students, faculty, colleagues, and friends upon whom he left a very positive indelible mark, will miss him greatly.
