
Edwin Ewing Reed, Jr., age 83, departed this life on Sunday, April 24, 2011, to join his loved ones who predeceased him, including his mother, Elsie Miller Reed, his father, Edwin Ewing Reed, Sr., and his sister, Harriett Sarah Reed. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Walker Reed, two daughters, Cynthia Reed French and Gloria Reed Blackburn (Douglas B.), son, Edwin E. Reed III, and four granddaughters, Karen Ashley Small, Kimberly Blackburn Ferraro (A.J.), Tracie Christine Small, and Alexandra Danielle French.
From high school, Ed joined the United States Navy and served during 1944 and1945, after which he attended George Peabody College for teachers. He sold automobiles at Capitol Chevrolet and Jim Reed Chevrolet before forming the Ed Reed Specialty Company in 1969 where he marketed advertising specialty items. When Ed was a member of Hillwood Country Club, he was an avid golfer. Edwin was a member of the Al Menah Shrine Temple, the Doric Lodge 732, and was a 32nd degree Mason from the Scottish Rite Bodies. As an active member of Belle Meade United Methodist Church, Ed belonged to the Kingswood Sunday School Class.
His funeral service is to be held at Belle Meade United Methodist Church, located at 121 Davidson Road, Nashville, TN 37205, on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Michael Ripski officiating. Pallbearers are Bill H. McClanahan, Don R. King, and members of the Kingswood Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
