

Elizabeth Caldwell Thompson (Betsy) died peacefully on March 19, 2014 at her home in Nashville. She was born on August 28, 1924, the youngest daughter of the late Maude Gee and Andrew Lafayette Thompson.
She graduated from David Lipscomb High School and from the two year business program at David Lipscomb College. After college, she began work at Bell Telephone and then entered into a lifelong career in the trust department of Nashville Bank and Trust, Third National Bank, and SunTrust. She achieved the distinction of becoming one of the first women to be named a Vice President of Third National Bank.
Betsy was a lifelong member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ. Her involvement in civic and charitable organizations included: The Centennial Club, The Fort Nashborough Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Nashville Town Committee of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Town and Country Garden Club, and The Opera Guild. In her retirement, traveling, gardening, golfing, reading, and bridge were some of her many activities. However, her love and dedication to her family and many friends was foremost in her life. Her friendly nature allowed her to have friends of all generations. She was known fondly as “Old Bet” to her great nieces and to many of their friends. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Betsy was preceded in death by her sisters, Minnie Thompson, Mary Louise Thompson, Coby C. Thompson, Ruth G. Thompson, and Anne Reese Thomas, and her dear friend Marshall Edgar Derryberry III.
She is survived by her nieces, Susan Thomas Hall of Vero Beach, Florida, and Jane Thomas Yancey of Charlottesville, Virginia; four great nieces, Nancy Hall Bunting (Jeffrey) of Nashville, Carrie Hall Spofford (Jeremy) of New York City, Anne Yancey Spillers (Ron) of Afton, Virginia, and Elizabeth Yancey of Richmond, Virginia; and six great-great nephews; and nieces.
The family would like to thank her loving and dedicated caregivers: Dana Jordan, Tiffany Kinnard, Betty Holt, and Bonnie McGee.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at Hillsboro Church of Christ on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at eleven o’clock. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 from six o’clock until eight o’clock at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park immediately following the service.
