Frank Jacob Ebel, Jr., age 93 of Nashville, TN passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at his home. Frank was born September 14, 1927 in New Orleans, LA to Frank J. Ebel, Sr. and Julia Caroline Davison. He had one older sibling, Frederick Charles Ebel.
Frank served in the army at the end of World War II. After the war was over and he was discharged from his army duties, Frank attended Tulane University, graduating in 1950 with a degree in civil engineering. Even though he attended church most of his life, he did not come to know Christ as his personal Savior until Easter Sunday, 1950. After graduating from Tulane, Frank felt that God was calling him into the ministry.
Frank married Isobel Gillies Moodie on June 1st, 1956. They moved to Dallas, TX where he attended Dallas Theological Seminary and graduated with a Master of Theology on May 14, 1957. That summer, they attended the Summer Institute of Linguistics at the University of Oklahoma and then went to Brazil with the Unevangelized Fields Mission.
Three children were born to Frank and Isobel while they were on the mission field. They served in Roriama, Brazil to the Shirishana Indians from 1958 to 1963 until Isobel and Chip contracted life-threatening illnesses. After returning to the states, Frank pastored churches in Cushing, OK and Electra, TX and then in September of 1966, he was called to Woodmont Independent Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN. He continued as pastor of the church until his retirement in 1993.
Following his retirement, Frank received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Nashville Bible College, where he served on the faculty. He continued to faithfully serve his Lord and Savior until the end of his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. His life verse was Philippians 4:19: "And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus".
Frank is survived by his son, Frank J. Ebel, III and his daughter, Jeanie Ebel Roberson, married to Phil Roberson, Jr.; his grandchildren, Kathryn Roberson and Christopher Roberson, married to Mayci West Roberson and great-granddaughter, Aurora Roberson.
