Gary Lee Holmes PhD

Holmes, Gary L. PhD, - of Nashville, TN, previously of St. Paul, MN and Longmont, CO. Gary son of Gary M. Holmes and Dorothy Holmes age 57, passed on to another dimension during the Christmas Holiday season. Born February 4, 1954 in Sturgis, South Dakota; he was a proud graduate of the doctoral program in Physical Chemistry at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He spent many years in Corporate America at 3M and Imation in St. Paul, Minnesota. He then took his passion for chemistry into the classroom and mentored hundreds of students, in particular those taking his classes at Nashville State Community College. Gary loved to cook for his family and friends, subscribing to all known gourmet cooking magazines. He was devoted to his children Colin, Kelsey, Stacy, and Jackson. He loved to snuggle with his dogs Boris and Murphy and in his spare time collected coins and rocks; he was also a wonderful artist though he never believed so. Gary is survived by his children and his wife, Candace Tillquist; his father, Gary (Rose) of Longmont, CO; his brother, Scott (Sheri) of Johnstown, CO; and his two beautiful grandchildren, Avery and Mason. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy. Visitation for Gary will commence at 2:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home on Saturday, December 31, 2011.
