

Age 87 of Nashville died on November 28, 2011 of complications of Alzheimer’s. Preceded in death by his parents, George Martin Cole and Margaret Elizabeth Killian Cole; wife of 49 years Peggie Drummond Cole; and brothers William A. Cole and James V. Cole. Survived by his wife Sarah Diehl Cole; sister Margaret Ann Calhoun (Wallace); sons George E. Cole, Jr. (Cindy) and Martin D. Cole (Eve); daughter Karen Cole Ahern (Larry); grandchildren Sacha Hancock, Liz Pellegrini (Kenny), Zach Cole, Kirkland Ahern, Elizabeth Chatham (Steve) and two great-grandchildren.
George was born in Chattanooga, TN. He joined the Marine Corps in 1943 and served in combat in the Pacific. He later returned to service with the U.S. Navy in the Korean conflict. After graduating from the University of Chattanooga he went to work for 3M Company. His career took George and his family from Chattanooga to Nashville, Huntington Beach, CA and later Phoenix, AZ. He moved back to Nashville in July 2000.
He was a member for many years of Crievewood United Methodist Church, Paradise Valley United Methodist Church (Scottsdale, AZ) and, after his return to Nashville, Calvary United Methodist Church.
The family offers their gratitude to the staff and caregivers at the Clare Bridge unit at The Cumberland of Green Hills, and to Sam and Rose Stan and their caregivers.
Visitation with the family will be at 10 am Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Calvary Methodist Church with a memorial service following at 11 am.
