George Augustus Shwab III

George Augustus Shwab III, age 78, passed away on June 10, 2015 at his home in Brentwood, TN. He was born January 20, 1937 in Nashville, TN, the son of the late George Augustus Shwab, Jr. and Elizabeth Battelle Kennedy. Mr. Shwab graduated from Battle Ground Academy in 1955 and received a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in 1959. He obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1961. Following graduation, he entered the life insurance business in Berkeley, CA and served his clients in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area for fourteen years prior to returning to Nashville. He continued his career with Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company, later expanding into financial planning until his retirement in January 2003 from TrustCore in Brentwood, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Virginia B. Shwab, and his stepfather, Thomas P. Kennedy, Jr. Mr. Shwab is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Lydick Shwab, and his children, Deane Shwab Vermilya and her husband, George, of Lynchburg, VA and George Augustus Shwab IV and his wife, Sandra, of Brentwood, TN. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Emily Vermilya Phillips, George Douglas Vermilya III and Sidney Hyatt Vermilya; and two step-grandchildren: Matthew Issac Huff and Stephen Kirke Huff. Additionally, Mr. Shwab is survived by his sister, Elizabeth S. Stephen, of Charlevoix, MI; half brother, Peter M. Kennedy, of Brentwood, TN; and half sister, Margaret K. Brown, of Richmond, VA. The family will receive friends at Church of the Advent, 5501 Franklin Rd., Nashville, TN on Monday, June 15, 2015 from four until six o’clock in the evening. The family will also receive friends at the church on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 thirty minutes prior to the one-thirty funeral officiated by The Reverend Brian McVey. There will be a private interment at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be George A. Shwab IV, Peter M. Kennedy, George D. Vermilya, Jr., George D. Vermilya III, Sidney H. Vermilya, Matthew I. Huff, Stephen K. Huff and Zachary J. Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Buffalo River Hunting Club.
